Congressional Israel Allies Caucus holds first event in 112th Congress
On February 9, 2011 the Israel Allies Foundation hosted a reception on Capitol Hill for the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus Members. Attending the reception were Members of the United States Congress, key Congressional Staff, IAF leadership, leaders from the Jewish and Christian communities and representatives from the Israeli Embassy including his Excellency Ambassador Oren.
The event was an opportunity for friends of Israel to come together to show support of our democratic ally in the Middle East, and to set the tone for the 112th Congress. The reception was opened by former Congressman Dave Weldon, the original Republican co-Chair of the Israel Allies Caucus.
During the reception the guests heard from both of the Israel Allies Caucus co-Chairs, the Honorable Eliot Engel (D-NY) and the Honorable Trent Franks (R-AZ). Each addressed the crowd and the media reaffirming the unwavering, bipartisan support of the United States Congress for Israel. Ambassador Oren was welcomed to the podium, and spoke about the great friendship between the United States and Israel. Chairman of the IAF, former Member of Knesset Rabbi Benny Elon concluded the evening, thanking the Members for their participation and stressing the shared history and Judeo-Christian values that Americans share with the Israeli people.
Haaretz covered the event and the Israel Allies Caucus was mentioned in an article the next day:
