Israel Allies Foundation Applauds President's Recognition of Jerusalem
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Israel Allies Foundation (IAF) welcomes the White House announcement today on U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the future movement of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. We commend the President for rightly pointing out Israel’s ancient establishment of the city as their capital and for applauding their track record of ensuring religious freedom in the city.
“Today’s announcement reflects the will of the American people to recognize the capital of our strongest ally in the Middle East,” commented Dr. Daniel Williams, Executive Director of the IAF. “It is our great hope that other nations will join the United States and move their Embassies to Israel’s capital city as well.”
“We would be remiss however, if we did not address our concern at the lack of clarification on the indivisibility of Jerusalem. The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 states very clearly that it is “the policy of the United States [that] Jerusalem should remain an undivided city.” While the President has placed the issue of final boundaries in the hands of the Israeli and Palestinian people, the unity of Jerusalem has been the goal of Congress and the hope of millions of Americans who have advocated for this move,” continued Dr. Williams.
Since its establishment in 2006, the bipartisan Congressional Israel Allies Caucus in the U.S. House has fought to keep an indivisible Jerusalem on the political frontline.
“Today we also want to applaud the tireless efforts and leadership of the Caucus co-chairs and commend all of the bipartisan members of the Caucus who have annually introduced legislation and gathered on Capitol Hill to celebrate the reunification of Jerusalem. The emphasis of all of these efforts has always been the indivisibility of the city,” Williams said.
The Israel Allies Foundation (IAF) also cited a statement made by Representative Alan Clemmons of South Carolina, one of the world’s leading pro-Israel policymakers and author of the 2016 Israel Plank of the Republican Platform: “I feel it is urgent for the Trump Administration to clarify its position on the indivisibility of Jerusalem, as the matter was an important part of the overwhelmingly popular changes made to the GOP Platform position on Israel.”
“This is an important time for the American pro-Israel community to consider the pledge we make to our own flag: “One nation, under G-d, indivisible…” United States support for the indivisibility of Jerusalem is the core matter of interest to pro-Israel voters,” concluded Clemmons.
The Israel Allies Foundation works with Congress and parliaments around the world to mobilize political support for Israel based on Judeo-Christian values.
